For number 132’s shop window at Calçada da Estrela, artist Miguel Palma has introduced the building of a device which monitors the interior of the human body. For that matter he will fill the glass’ surface with human body’s x-rays and its reading will be maximized through a light box at the interior of the shop.

This is a piece which works both during the day or night. The artist has been inspired by the shop’s architectural space in the interior, resembling many other similar spaces in Lisbon which are currently abandoned and decrepit.

This artwork identifies a current problem in the city of Lisbon, the desertion of the historic centre, the aging of a city and its population, the bankruptcy of the local and traditional trade.

The religious title, in contrast to the reference of scientific diagnostic tools, may be understood as ironical.

There are means for diagnosing reality but we prefer to delegate this role to a mythological figure accepting, with resignation, a certain idea of destiny and fate. A certain praise to suffering which is confirmed by the contemplation of the disease and the fragility of the human race.
