“Five Lines Almost”

When I was a child I lived very close to the Green Windows Museum (Museu das Janelas Verdes) and my grandfather used to take me for a walk to the little garden by the Tagus (Tejo), located just ahead and, from time to time, he would come in the Museum with me where one (between others) of my great amusements was to try counting Dürer’s Saint Jerome’s beard hair; it’s a dazing universe of  matted lines that fascinated me (still does) by the accuracy of its execution but where each line of an almost unachievable fineness, is effectively, quantifiable.

This MONTRA plays with the formula “graffite without paper” and, at the same time, is a tribute to this such versatile and expressive material which is the graphite.

It also is a way of revisiting old sensations and a way of ascertaining that each line is a quantum of space.

Ahhh! By the way, a pull of Saint Jerome’s five beard hairs!
